Frontier River Guides has over many years earned a reputation for providing superlative Alaska fly fishing float trips. Our niche as a guide service is to offer only customized, private-party river trips, tailored to your group’s interests. FRG has pioneered guided Alaska float fishing expeditions on several rivers that have no lodges, guide boats or overhead aircraft … SOLITUDE for just you and your friends or family. No one knows these waters as does our guide staff.
Our Alaska fly fishing float “Program” has been dialed in for customer satisfaction. We offer unsurpassed catch and release fly fishing to BIG Alaska rainbow trout, dolly varden, arctic graying, sea run char and all five species of Pacific salmon. The experiences we provide on our wilderness Alaska fly fishing raft trips are based on being close to the land and respectful of the bounties of nature.
Frontier River Guides has endeavored to provide the most enjoyable and satisfying guided float fishing trips in Alaska. We cut no corners in offering an experience which affords our guests a first class Alaska float trip: excellent guides, amazing meals, comfortable camps, top notch equipment, unfailing logistical support and a 100% safety record. If fishing is like religion, than fly fishing is like high church
The FRG guide team has worked together for over two decades, developing a finely tuned approach to conducting fly fishing float trips in Alaska. We have little to no staff turn over and are solid to the core. From the early morning coffee and healthy breakfast, through the day’s rafting, wading and fishing, to the final kitchen clean up of the evening; our Alaska fly fishing expeditions flow out as smoothly as the rivers we fish.
We operate in such a way as to place our guests on the very best holding waters, for the greatest number of hours possible in a day. Frontier River Guides strives to maximize the time people spend on their feet, moving about freely. On a fly fishing float trip in Alaska, we work our way down river daily, setting up comfortable camps each evening. Our guides perform all camp chores, prepare all meals and handle everything, cheerfully, efficiently and intelligently.
Our Alaska fly fishing guide service is committed to proper catch and release practices, and view ourselves as custodians of the rivers we operate on. Frontier River Guides offers an unsurpassed customer service, safety awareness, knowledge of the waters, quality gear, superlative meals and most importantly: conversant, educated, good hearted and highly experienced Alaska fly fishing raft guides.

Marty Decker grew up in the frontier town of Fairbanks, Alaska.
As a teenager in the late 1960’s he gained wilderness skills, fish finding abilities and river navigation basics from Alaska pioneer prospector Al Withrow. Marty is at home in the Alaska bush and enjoys sharing the beauty of Alaska and his enthusiasm for adventure with our guests.
Marty’s wilderness savvy has been developed through many years of backcountry experience as a fly fisherman, mountaineer, boat driver, gold prospector, ski racing coach, adaptive outdoor recreation specialist and wilderness guide. He began his professional river guiding career on the Kanektok River in 1982. After many years of conducting float trips for reputable Alaska fly fishing outfitters and lodges, Marty established Frontier River Guides, intending to offer the finest wilderness Alaska fly fishing float trips available. His culinary skills and light hearted nature set the tone for Frontier River Guides’ wilderness Alaska fly fishing trips.
